This year’s scholarship application season is now closed and we are ready to announce the winner of the 2024 Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship.
Every year the Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship receives over 200 submissions with many amazing applicants who showcase their personal passion for community service and the impactful lessons they’ve learned along the way.
The scholarship committee is deeply impressed each year with how many students are such upstanding members of their communities, putting in so much personal effort to make a difference and uplift those around them.
This is Check City’s fourth year offering the Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship and the turnout of exemplary students who applied this year was inspiring. This scholarship program was founded in loving memory of the Check City CEO’s father. It is an annual scholarship awarded to the winner of an essay contest answering the prompt, “How have you given back to your community and what did you learn in the process?”
The Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship aims to offer financial support to an exemplary community member who shows through their essay a commitment to serving and uplifting the community.
We are proud to announce that the 2024 Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship winner is Divya Saikumar!
Divya is a student from Illinois who has worked to uplift her community in many ways, including volunteering at orphanages, beach cleanups, recycling programs, fundraising, and donation efforts.
Divya has also partnered with SCARCE to set up a recycling program at her high school with multiple drop-off sites. Through this initiative, she recycled writing utensils and batteries, sold bread tags to a plastics manufacturer to raise thousands of dollars to purchase wheelchairs for disabled children, and melted broken crayons to make 700 sets of large crayons for the Treasure Chest Foundation to give to children undergoing chemotherapy. Divya also co-founded the Rice University chapter of the Food Recovery Network in her efforts to fight food insecurity. Through Farming Hope, she was also able to combat food insecurity while helping formerly incarcerated individuals, refugees, and unhoused individuals undergo job training.
Divya Saikumar is a passionate and driven member of her community with a strong commitment to uplifting her community in tangible and environmentally efficient ways.
One of Check City’s core values as a company is to uplift and serve our community. This scholarship was created to uplift and support students who are examples of this foundational principle. Community involvement is an invaluable service and we’re honored for the opportunity to support students who embody this personal drive to live a life full of service.
The 2025 scholarship will open for submissions on January 1st, 2025. Learn more about the scholarship and how you might qualify on our scholarship page.
